Today we talked about how we can stop procrastination.
Summary:
1. Break your big task into smaller tasks
E.g. Study each lecture individually instead of thinking it's a lot of studies
2. Make your goals seem easier to achieve
E.g. Say you will study for only 5 mins to get yourself to start first
3. Set earlier deadlines
E.g. To get the work done at your expected deadline
When you procrastinate you can ask yourself these questions
1. Where are you?
2. What do you need to work on?
3. How would you feel after you finish it?
Group discussion
Person A: Procrastinate at reading law textbook of 200 pages in 2 weeks
Solution? Break it down force yourself to read 14 pages per day. If you don't understand, go look it up or ask someone who can help. Don't give up.
Person B: Procrastinate and not following timetable
Solution? Try to make your schedule more flexible. Have more buffer time for things so you can make sure you will follow through your timetable.
Person C: Procrastinate with studying English
Solution? Try tell yourself to study English for 5 mins only everyday. You can listen to English broadcast radio like 4BC, ABC.
Person D: Procrastinate with business ideas
Solution? Set deadlines! Can try tell people you will get this done by this date so you have more motivation to get it done.
Person E: Procrastinate with study or doing assignment
Solution? Go for a walk instead of staying at home. Go to the library. Try to get up earlier.
Personal input:
You have to ask yourself why you do it? If you can't even answer that, then you are sure to procrastinate.
People procrastinate because they 'have' to do it. Not because they 'want' to do it.
Big difference. Try to make yourself 'want' to do it by asking 'why' u do it.
At the end of day, there is no shortcut to procrastination, it is all about...
